การศึกษา
ดร. อธิป อัศวานันท์ สำเร็จการศึกษาปริญญาตรีด้าน Economics และ Computer Science จาก University of Chicago สำเร็จการศึกษาปริญญาโท ด้าน Information Networking และ Philosophy จาก Carnegie Mellon University และได้สำเร็จการศึกษาปริญญาเอกด้าน Management Information Systems จาก Carnegie Mellon University จึงอาจเป็นเรื่องขำที่ ดร. อธิป มีปริญญา 5 ใบ
ระหว่างการศึกษาปริญญาโท-เอก ดร. อธิป ได้รับรางวัลทุนการศึกษาและวิจัยจาก Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) และ National Science Foundation (NSF) และได้ถูกเชิญไปนำเสนอผลงานวิจัยหลายครั้งโดยมีบริษัทยักษ์ใหญ่ IBM และ HP ฯลฯ และยังได้ถูกเชิญไปร่วมทำวิจัยที่ HP Labs ผู้บุกเบิก Web Services ในสมัยนั้น
ระหว่างการศึกษาปริญญาเอกผลงานวิจัยด้าน Peer-to-Peer Networks ของ ดร. อธิป ได้รับรางวัลที่สองจาก International Conference on Information Systems ใน Barcelona, Spain (ICIS 2002) และได้รับการตีพิมพ์ใน Information System Research (ISR) วารสารอันดับหนึ่งของสาขาวิชา Information Systems ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่ทำได้ยากมากและเกือบเป็นไปไม่ได้สำหรับนักศึกษาปริญญาเอก
หัวข้อในการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ของ ดร. อธิป เป็นเนื้อหาที่ต้องใช้ความรู้ความสามารถอย่างลึกซึ้งจากในทั้งด้าน Microeconomics และ Computer Science ซึ่งมีการประยุกต์ใช้ Game Theory, Empirical Data Analysis, Text-Based Information Retrieval and Classification, Agent Simulation ฯลฯ
ช่วงเวลาของการศึกษาปริญญาโท-เอก ของ ดร. อธิป ถือได้ว่าเป็นช่วงบุกเบิกด้าน Search Engine, สังคมออนไลน์ และ E-Commerce ซึ่ง ดร. อธิป ได้รับประโยชน์เป็นอย่างมากจากการมีส่วนร่วมและได้คลุกคลีกับปรมาจารย์ผู้ร่วมบุกเบิกในสมัยนั้น
Education
Dr. Atip Asvanund completed Bachelor’s Degrees in Economics and Computer Science from University of Chicago. He completed Master’s Degrees in Information Network and Philosophy from Carnegie Mellon University, and also completed Doctorate’s Degree in Management Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University. It may be humorous that Dr. Atip has 5 academic degrees.
During his graduate studies, Dr. Atip was awarded full scholarship for tuition and research from Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and also National Science Foundation (NSF). He was often invited by large corporations like IBM and HP to present his work. Dr. Atip was also invited to conduct his research work at HP Labs, a pioneer of Web Services during that era.
Dr. Atip’s doctoral research on peer-to-peer networks was selected a runner up to the best research paper award at International Conference on Information Systems in Barcelona, Spain (ICIS 2002). His research was subsequently awarded publication in Information System Research (ISR), the top journal in the field of Information Systems, a rare and almost impossible achievement for a doctoral student.
Dr. Atip’s doctoral thesis requires deep understanding of Microeconomics and Computer Science, and involves the application of Game Theory, Empirical Data Analysis, Text-Based Information Retrieval and Classification, Agent Simulation.
The time period of Dr. Atip’s graduate studies coincides with the invention of search engines, online communities, and electronic commerce. It was a blessing that Dr. Atip had a chance to be involve with the pioneers of the era.
